Founded in 1942 and immediately placed under the command of General Doolitle, the 12th Air Force is responsible for supporting the operation "Torch", November 8, 1942.
The unit served with the Air Force in North Africa West from February to December 1943, then with the Allied Air Forces in the Mediterranean (MAAF) until the end of the war on the side of the other unit presented in this book: the 15th Air Force latter was activated in November 1943 to operate on the MTO (Mediterranean Theater of Operations) and it is mainly from airfields in southern Italy that his groups were stationed. Its objectives were to destroy all oil refineries and aircraft plant.
This book will present all units and appliances used by these two big objectives and results that are too often overlooked by historians of the Second World War. A chapter is devoted to the famous Tuskegees the 322th Fighter Group of the 15th Air Force, the first and only first line unit of American aviation composed entirely of African Americans.
